E-Sinchew has a fascinating article about various Asian nations' government authorities embracing "the DVD Phenomenon" because it gives people a sense of economic well-being and distracts them from rioting in the streets!

I attended sneek peaks of The Baxter and Serenity this week.

Baxter (not to be confused with the terrifying French film about a murderous Spuds Mackenzie) is the story of the guy at the end of The Graduate who got dumped with sort of an early 90's indie bent. It covers a lot of the same themes of The 40 Year Old Virgin but is a little too self-conscious to achieve the insta-classic status that 40 YoV has in my heart. Though it's worth noting the still-gorgeous Paul Rudd makes an appearance in both and Micheal Ian Black spends most of his screentime in bikini briefs.
